One things I wanted to do on this blog was to get a chance to talk about everything that I am interested in. I love to read, love podcasts, and I am a movie freak. But my first and foremost form of entertainment is TV. I have a funny and eclectic taste in TV. There is no rhyme or reason to figure out what I like to watch on TV. My DVR is as random as my iPod. Here are a couple of my favorite shows right now. One has been on he air for a while, the other is brand new.

My tied and true favorite is Person of Interest on CBS. Last night was the season finale and wow it was out of this world. I have to admit I watched it twice it was so good. If you have not seen the show shame on you. The show really makes you think and is true to life. What if the government had an AI system that could keep an eye on everyone in the country. Would it be used properly to prevent bad things from happening. Could it be abused to take away our civil rights. After last nights show, I really had to sit down and think about civil liberty vs domestic safety. Is has grown from a police and detective show to a show that makes you think about what we face in trying times while trying to keep our country safe. It has the feel of Terminator, ,can the machines take over. It has intrigue can we trust our government. POI has many facets to the show, there are relationships and friendships. It shows just how much can you trust the people you work with. It explores human emotions when your heart tells what is wrong or right when you head tells something different. The big question in the last episode would you do the unthinkable and hurt an innocent person to keep them from doing something that will hurt others in the future. It is great drama!!!

My new favorite show is Turn on AMC. Turn is set during the time of the Revolutionary War. It is the untold story of the Cupler Spy Ring that gathered information on the Red Coats during their occupation of New York. Before you yawn, and grab the clicker and see what else is on please give the show a break and give it a try. I know most people think history is dull and boring. Let’s face it memorizing dates and places can be a dull boring tedious task. This show is not about boring dates, it’s about the people who were real life flesh and blood, with feelings that we never had a chance to touch and feel them as real people, living hot blooded human beings. The founding fathers were not just black and white grainy pictures but real people. The loved and hated, the lusted and loathed, they petty and mean. In other words they were human being just like us.

One of the things I never learned in school was America was divided way back then, very much like we are today. In 1776 there was no consensus amongst the people on what the people really wanted. I had no idea that not everyone was yelling and screaming USA USA USA. I got a chance to visit Philadelphia a few years ago and took my son to see Constitution Hall. I asked the park ranger many questions about the American Revolution. One of things I learned that the people of that time were divided on the question about independence from the crown. Thirty percent were in favor of a new nation, and thirty percent were loyal to the crown. And the other forty percent, they just were trying to live there lives and get along. Sounds like America in 2014 doesn’t it?

The show Turn exposes all the feelings in the conflict between the Red Coats and their Loyalist allies and the Patriots who wanted independence. Now you add in real people with the lusts and desires. Their wants and needs. Turns takes the legends of the American Revolution and brings them to life making them real people like you and me, allowing us to really see them for who there were. Watching the show has made me even more impressed with our founding fathers because of the amazing things mere mortals achieved.

If you get some time check out my new favorite show Turn
